47 YEAR TOTAL ROAD RACING HISTORY HIGHLIGHTS

 

1959-1964

 

Began racing career-driving single and twin engine go-karts, at age 11, under his father's direction. Raced at Regional and National events throughout the central United States. National Champion "Father-Son Driving Team" in 1963 winning the "Hot-Rod Magazine" IKF National Championship trophy.

1965-1968

Participated in various club auto racing events at an amateur level in the Northern Illinois area. Also joined the Chicago Corvette Club

 

1968-1969

 

Began a very successful period of autocross and Solo competition, driving a stock 1968 427/390 HP Corvette. Won his class in 90% of these races and took "fastest time of the event" on many occasions.

 

1970-1971

 

Purchased a 1966 427 race prepared Corvette Roadster and twice won the 1970 "A-Production" Championship in the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Club competition.

 

1972

 

Co-drove in a GTO class Corvette in selected IMSA races and began preparations for building a new SCCA 1973 "B-Production" Corvette with assistance from Chevrolet engineering.

 

1973

 

Took on a position of Team Mechanic on Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood's "917-10 Twin Turbo Porsche" Can-Am Car. Traveled throughout the United States and Canada providing considerable assistance, which helped the team to a 3rd overall for the 1973 SCCA "Can-Am Series" season. During the off season, continued working on his SCCA "B-Production" 1973 Corvette project.

 

1974

 

Finished "B-Production" Corvette and won 1st "overall" in 4 out of 6 Regional races.

 

1975

 

Raced the "B-Production" Corvette in SCCA Regional, National and in several "Trans-Am" races. Finished 2nd overall in the Pontiac, Michigan "Street Race". Also drove in the Elkhart Lake Road America one time "Handicap Race" running as high as 5th at midway. An Australian pursuit type of race event. Once passed you were out of the race. During the off season, attended Bondurant's Advanced Racing School and graduated with high grades.

1976

Ran in 10 races, including SCCA "Trans-Am" and SCCA National events. Invited to SCCA Road Atlanta National Run-Offs and finished 5th in "A-Production" against the best big block Corvette racers in the country.

 

1977

 

Drove in IMSA 24-Hours of Daytona in an AA/GT Camaro. Also contracted to drive the "Mancuso Chevrolet AA/GT Greenwood Corvette" and competed in "Trans-Am" races throughout the United States including the Elkhart Lake Road America Twin "Trans-Am" and the Watkins Glen 6-Hour "Trans-Am".

 

1978

 

Again competed in IMSA Daytona 24-Hour race finishing 22 hours of the race. Also co-drove in selected SCCA National and "Trans-Am" races throughout the United States.

 

1979

 

Co-drove at the IMSA Mid-Ohio 250 race in a Dekon Monza. Started last in qualifying race due to mechanical problems and finished 2nd overall.

 

1981

 

Drove 1981 "Trans-Am" Corvette in two late season SCCA National races as a warm-up for his new team to compete in the "1982 C.R.C. Chemicals Trans-Am Series."

 

1982

 

Competed in SCCA's Professional "Trans-Am Series including finishing 8th at Mid-Ohio and 7th at Elkhart Lake and 17th overall for the season. Ran IMSA's GTO Series 6-hour event at Mid-Ohio and finished a very creditable 5th Place. Also a 3rd Place finish in the highly competitive "June Sprints" at Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin. Developed Corvette for 1983 "Trans-Am" Series.

 

1983

 

Competed in Elkhart Lake "Trans-Am" Race during the CART/PPG Indy Car & SCCA CRC "Trans-Am" weekend.

 

1987

 

Drove for the Pontiac Factory Team in the IMSA 6-hour "Firehawk Series" race in Phoenix, AZ. Qualified 21st out of a 48-car field and ran a high position of 5th before mechanical problems rendered the car undriveable. Also enrolled in Jim Hall II's Racing Go-Kart School. Took beginning and advanced courses and finished 2nd out of 24 in the year end run-offs for school graduates. Also competed in six Go-Kart races finishing 8th, 2-6th's, 2-4th's and a 1st.

 

1992

 

Raced in Porsche club speed event at Willow Springs International Raceway in 1982 GT-1 Corvette. Again took Jim Hall's Go-Kart School as a warm up to an invitational celebrity Go-Kart race at Hollywood Park (LA). Participated in Celebrity-Charity Muscular-Dystrophy Go-Kart Race, won 1 race.

 

1993

 

Raced in Porsche club speed event at Willow Springs International Raceway in 1982 GT-1 Corvette. Took Bob Bondurant's "3-Day Advanced Road Racing" School in Phoenix, Arizona. Graduated with highest grade in class. Raced in both the Ferrari Club/Pantera Club time trials and the Porsche Owners Club speed events at Willow Springs International Raceway.

 

1994 - 1995

 

Raced in Vintage Auto Racing Association, "VARA", event at Willow Springs International Raceway on July 2nd & 3rd. Finished 1st in class, A-Production, and 8th overall on Saturday and 1st in class and 4th overall in Sunday's main event out of a total of 30 cars in the race.

 

1996 - 2000

 

Participated in various South Florida Speed Events, Autocrosses and Time Trials with SCCA, the Porsche Owners Club and the Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club. Also ran with the SAFE club and the Palm Beach Motorsports Club's open track sessions at Homestead and at Moroso Motorsports Park road courses. Race in several speed events including finishing 2nd Overall out of a total of 82 Vipers & Corvettes and finished 1st in the Corvette Class at the 2000 Viper-Vette Shootout at Moroso Motorsports Park.

2003

 

Participated in NASA-PDC Open Track Days at Moroso Motorsports Park, Sebring International Raceway & Homestead International Raceway. Also a crew member for Dr. Kevin Muench's SCCA "T-1" Corvette at Homestead, Moroso, Daytona & Sebring in SCCA National races.

 

2004

 

January: Took Bob Bondurant's "2-Day Advanced Road Racing" School in for the third time out in Phoenix, Arizona and graduated with highest grade in my class.

 

2005

 

Completed & tested the new C5-R 602 HP Racing C5R Pro Competition Corvette Coupe. Raced in three NASA & PBOC events at Moroso Motorsports Park, Sebring International Raceway & Homestead-Miami Speedway.

 

2006

 

2006 Raced in five NASA & six PBOC events at Moroso Motorsports Park, Sebring International Raceway & Homestead-Miami Speedway. Qualified on the pole at the March NASA event in both Sat & Sunday's races. In spring and summer built a new 402 CID 650 HP motor, added new coil-over suspension system and wider wheels and tires to increase the competitive ability of the C5-R.
